The 2nd Cultural Event of the Cultural Chiari & Scoliosis & Syringomyelia Foundation took place at the San Luigi Guanella theatre in Rome (Italy) in October 2017 with the contributions of the artist physicians.

Dr. Miguel Royo Salvador, other than his studies at the School of Medicine that took him to completing his PhD in Neurosurgery, as a young man also studied at the School of Arts and Crafts on Tarragona for three years. He won three prizes in that region in 1967 for painting, quick drawing and decoration.

He presented to us during the event two series of acrylic drawings, amongst others, created for medical publications that illustrate one of the conditions that play a central role in the event as well as surgical technique employed to treat it:

“Sequence of the formation of a Arnold-Chiari Syndrome Type I, with a descent of the cerebellum, the 4th ventricle and the cerebellar tonsils. For a medical publication in 1996.” “ Sequence of the minimally invasive surgical technique of the sectioning of the filum terminale. For a medical publication in 1997.”

Dr. Horia Calin Salca took part in the event showing his paintings “Cadaqués”, “Church of Siurana” and “Last supper”, carried out with pencils, wax pencil and India ink.

Neurosurgeon and researcher at the Institut Chiari & Siringomielia & Escoliosis de Barcelona, the physician nurtures a passion for drawings and paintings since his youth, when he went to the Fine Arts School of Targu-Mures in Romania (1975-78). He then interrupted his studies to start with the preparations to enter the School of Medicine.

The cultural solidarity event in support of patients with the diagnoses of the Arnold-Chiari Syndrome Type I, idiopathic Syringomyelia and Scoliosis and other conditions related to the Filum Disease was organized by the Chiari & Scoliosis & Syringomyelia Foundation (CSSf), in cooperation with the Institut Chiari & Siringomielia & Escoliosis de Barcelona (ICSEB) and the association AI.SAC.SI.SCO Onlus.
