On 27th and 28th of October 2022, the first edition of the “Filum System® Medical course for physiotherapists” took place. It was organised by the Filum Academy Barcelona® (FAB), in collaboration with the Institut Chiari & Siringomielia & Escoliosis de Barcelona (ICSEB) and the Chiari & Scoliosis & Syringomyelia Private Foundation (CSSF). At the end of the course, diplomas were awarded to all participants.
The course was attended by health care professionals specialised in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, interested in Filum Disease and the physical alterations that this condition entails; highlighting the importance of the rehabilitation after the sectioning of the Filum Terminale..
The training, taught in Spanish, aims to disseminate the knowledge of Filum Disease and the treatment applied at the ICSEB, to physiotherapists who have treated patients who have undergone this surgical treatment.
The interdisciplinary collaboration between neurosurgeons, neurologists and rehabilitators can contribute to a wider understanding and dissemination of the Filum System® method; offering patients the possibility of approaching to healthcare professionals prepared to attend to them in the best way in the pre- and post-operative stages.
