The most frequent symptoms are\u00a0<strong>pain in the extremities, neck pain,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>alteration of thermal and tactile sensitivity, lower back pain, upper back pain, headache, gait disorders, paresis,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>sphincter alterations.\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Living with this condition means\u00a0<\/strong><strong>dealing with chronic pain<\/strong><strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/strong><strong>a progressive loss of autonomy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our Institute specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of\u00a0<strong>primary or idiopathic Syringomyelia<\/strong>, which, according to Dr M. B. Royo-Salvador\u2019s caudal traction theory, is caused by the\u00a0<strong>Filum Disease<\/strong>. Hence, the syringomyelic cavity is considered to be a consequence of the ischemia produced by the medullary traction that is generated by a tight filum terminale, non-detectable in the neuroimaging.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>treatment<\/strong>\u00a0we propose to patients at our centre consists in sectioning the Filum Terminale with a minimally invasive technique, according to the\u00a0<strong>exclusive<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Filum System<sup>\u00ae<\/sup><\/strong>\u00a0<strong>health method<\/strong>. The treatment is applied with the\u00a0<strong>objective of eliminating the root cause of the medullary cavities and stopping the progression of the disease<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>After\u00a0<strong>30 years of interventions<\/strong>\u00a0since Dr Royo\u2019s discovery of the etiopathogenic mechanism of the disease in 1993, our neurosurgical team continues to see that\u00a0<strong>this condition can be treated with excellent results by applying the Filum System<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0health method.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cActually\u201d, says Dr. M. Fiallos, one of the neurosurgery team\u2019s specialists: \u201cnot only is the progression of the syringomyelia stopped, preventing the cysts from capturing medullary tissue and its necrosis from expanding \u2013 as our patients\u2019 postoperative MRIs show in the short term \u2013 but there are also cases in which MR images show how\u00a0<strong>the cavities collapse and gradually disappear in the medium and long term,\u00a0<\/strong>not appearing new ones (Fig.1). Sometimes, no traces of the disease are left in the neuroimaging and in parallel we can observe the\u00a0<strong>patient\u2019s clinical improvement<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to the treatment that we apply at our centre, the correct blood circulation in the central nervous system is restored: \u201cthe\u00a0<strong>results<\/strong>\u00a0that we have obtained so far are not immediately visible, since they are the indirect consequence of a surgical act. However, they are\u00a0<strong>very satisfactory,\u00a0<\/strong>both objectively for the neurosurgeons and subjectively for the patients. We perform postoperative check-ups 7-10 years after the intervention approximately and can confirm that the cavities shrink and patients clinically recover\u201d, says the
