Its origin remains the subject of ongoing research.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of this day is clear: <strong>to raise awareness, promote research, and help patients.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 22px;\">Raising Awareness of Arnold\u2013Chiari Syndrome Type I<\/h2>\n<p>Many people are unfamiliar with <a href=\"https:\/\/institutchiaribcn.com\/en\/arnold-chiari-syndrome\/\"><strong>Arnold\u2013Chiari Syndrome Type I<\/strong> <\/a>or believe that it affects only the brain. However, it is a condition that can present very differently from one person to another.<\/p>\n<p>Some patients remain <strong>asymptomatic<\/strong> and discover the descent of the cerebellar tonsils incidentally during an MRI scan performed for another reason.<\/p>\n<p>In other cases, the condition can cause symptoms that significantly limit quality of life and may even result in substantial disability.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms can affect the entire nervous system and may include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Headaches and neck pain.<\/li>\n<li>Dizziness and vertigo.<\/li>\n<li>Loss of strength in the extremities<\/li>\n<li>Sensory alterations and neuropathic pain.<\/li>\n<li>Balance disorders.<\/li>\n<li>Swallowing difficulties.<\/li>\n<li>Sleep apnea.<\/li>\n<li>Insomnia.<\/li>\n<li>Memory and concentration problems.<\/li>\n<li>Speech disorders.<\/li>\n<li>Thoracic and lower back pain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Each patient experiences a different course of the disease, which is why diagnosis and treatment must be individualized.<\/p>\n<h2>ICSEB research into <a href=\"https:\/\/institutchiaribcn.com\/en\/arnold-chiari-syndrome\/\">Arnold-Chiari I Syndrome<\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Research is one of the fundamental pillars of the <strong>Institut Chiari &amp; Siringomielia &amp; Escoliosis de Barcelona<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>With the support of the <strong>Chiari &amp; Syringomyelia &amp; Scoliosis Foundation (CSSf)<\/strong>, the ICSEB Research Department studies <strong>Filum Disease<\/strong> and its possible relationship with <strong>Arnold\u2013Chiari I Syndrome<\/strong>, syringomyelia, and other neurological conditions.<\/p>\n<p>This line of research develops the <strong>caudal traction theory<\/strong>, according to which a congenitally abnormal and excessively tight <strong>Filum terminale<\/strong> could exert permanent traction on the entire central nervous system, promoting the descent of the cerebellar tonsils and the development of characteristic symptoms.<\/p>\n<p>This approach has led to the development of the <strong>Filum System\u00ae<\/strong> health method, which includes the design of the <strong>minimally invasive sectioning of the Filum terminale<\/strong> with the aim of eliminating pathological traction and halting disease progression. According to ICSEB&#8217;s clinical experience, this procedure considerably reduces the risks associated with conventional neurosurgical techniques used to treat Arnold\u2013Chiari Type I, such as <strong>decompressive craniectomy<\/strong> and various forms of <strong>suboccipital decompression<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The team lead by <strong>Dr. Miguel B. Royo Salvador<\/strong> continues to conduct new research into this physiopathological hypothesis and to publish scientific studies that contribute to the<br \/>\nunderstanding of this condition.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-size: 22px;\">How to Help People with Arnold\u2013Chiari I Syndrome<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>Chiari &amp; Syringomyelia &amp; Scoliosis Foundation (CSSf)<\/strong> works
